Project MUGGLE 2019
This year the Hogwart's staff has chosen to sponsor Bailey Roquemore. Bailey is 25 years old. She grew up in Holladay, Utah and attended Skyline High School. Bailey served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Wichita, Kansas and loved her time there. Bailey loves hiking, volleyball, racquetball, and spikeball. She loves playing cards, being near and in the water, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
Everyone who knows Bailey loves her. Bailey is described by family and friends as someone who is always continually positive and who is constantly looking to serve others. She received her physical therapy assisting license in December of 2017 and loved working in the field. Unfortunately, Bailey is unable to continue working at this time due to being diagnosed with giloblastoma multiform stage 4 brain cancer. This particular type of cancer has a very high mortality rate but Bailey and her family feel strongly that through faith in God and continued treatment they will see a miracle. Because the tumor is extremely aggressive they started intense treatment quickly. They began with radiation and chemotherapy, but unfortunately Bailey's body did not respond well to the chemotherapy and it became unsafe for them to continue with chemo. After finishing the radiation, Bailey's doctor recommended Optune therapy. Optune therapy is an amazing treatment option with little to no physical side effects, however it is extremely expensive. It involves wearing a battery powered head device 18 hours a day. The device sends electrical signals to the tumor to stop them from dividing and growing. Bailey is extremely grateful for Optune even though it makes day to day life difficult and work nearly impossible being connected to a machine daily. Bailey and her family are facing many financial difficulties due to her cancer and this amazing but expensive form of treatment. There are many, many bills that are not covered by insurance. Her family is facing further financial stress due to her father's job being at stake as the company is closing down their Salt Lake City branch. If her father loses his job, Bailey will have limited insurance options due to the fact she is unable to work full time. Bailey also has student debts to pay as she continues her education online at this time. This year the Hogwarts Staff would like to financially help out this incredibly deserving woman and her family. Bailey has expressed over and over how extremely grateful she is to be this year's "muggle." She knows your donations and contributions will help lighten the financial and emotional burden her and her family are facing at this time. We hope you will also find this to be a worthy cause for your yearly tuition. |
